Freddie Slater has joined Hitech for F3’s trip to Circuit Spa Francorchamps for the Belgium round of the season from 25-27 July.
Slater previously drove in F3 earlier this season in Bahrain with AIX Racing and finished second with the bonus point for fastest lap on debut in the Bahrain Sprint, before he retired from the Feature Race with damage after an opening-lap incident.
The 16-year-old has gone on to race in Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA), of which he is currently the title leader in that category at the halfway mark of the season.
Slater is the third replacement driver at Hitech this season after Joshua Dufek left the team following the Monaco round, with his seat filled by Jesse Carrasquedo in Spain and Austria, before Nikita Johnson filled in at Silverstone last time out.
Looking ahead to his return to F3, Slater is excited to return to Spa and get acclimatised to a new team, having never driven for Hitech before.
“I’m looking forward to racing at Spa with Hitech. It is one of my favourite circuits on the calendar and driving an F3 car here will be a great feeling.”
Hitech F3 Team Manager, Paul Bellringer added that the team are “delighted” to sign Slater for the trip to Belgium, such is the British youngster’s form.
“His single-seater career to date is impressive and his standout performance in Bahrain earlier this year was particularly creditable given that it was his series debut.
“Spa-Francorchamps is a very singular challenge for any driver, and while Freddie has raced here before, the opportunity to do so in F3 machinery is one I’m sure he will relish. We look forward to seeing him in action for Hitech.”
Slater will partner Martinius Stenshorne and Gerrard Xie for the weekend.
