Arsenal have signed goalkeeper, Anneke Borbe on a free transfer from VfL Wolfsburg.

Borbe spent the last two seasons at Wolfsburg where she only managed to make 15 appearances across all competitions but has now moved to Arsenal for a new challenge, and will wear the number 28 shirt this season.

“I’m really proud to join this amazing club,” commented Borbe on her arrival in North London as she joins the reigning UEFA Women’s Champions League title holders.

“It’s amazing to have the opportunity to come and be a part of Arsenal at such an exciting time. I’m looking forward to getting down to work with my team-mates and of course playing in front of our incredible supporters at Emirates Stadium.”

Arsenal Women’s Head Coach, Renee Slegers added that she is “delighted” to sign the 24-year-old German who she believes can develop her game with the club.

“We’ve been impressed by her composure and aerial presence and we believe she has a high ceiling for development here. We’re looking forward to working with Anneke in this next chapter of her career and I know our supporters will join us in giving her a warm welcome here.”

Arsenal’s Director of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley added that Borbe will help strengthen the goalkeeping unit whilst also being a long-term developmental signing for the club’s future.

“Anneke is a young goalkeeper with significant potential and we’re very pleased to bring her to the club. She has excellent qualities and will further strengthen our goalkeeper unit ahead of next season.”

Borbe began her career with Werder Bremen where she made 77 appearances between 2017 – 23.
