Finland meet Switzerland in a blockbuster winners-take-all showdown as Group A reaches its conclusion at UEFA Women’s Euro.
Locked on three points apiece with Switzerland sat second on goal difference, victory would see Finland qualify for the knockout stages.
Switzerland will however secure a knockout spot if they simply avoid defeat in this game.
Team News
Finland have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 2-1 loss to Norway.
Switzerland also have no fresh injury concerns after they eliminated Iceland with a 2-0 victory.
When is Kick-Off?
Finland face Switzerland at Stade de Geneve, Geneva, on Thursday 10 July at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK.
Stat Attack
- This is Finland’s first meeting against Switzerland at UEFA Women’s Euro.
- Switzerland are yet to beat Finland in any stage of this competition (D1, L1), having drawn 1-1 away and lost 2-0 at home in Qualifying for the 2005 edition.
- Finland have scored in both group matches so far at this tournament (W1, L1).
- Switzerland are looking to avoid become the second tournament host to be eliminated at the Group Stage after England in 2005.
Prediction
With both teams locked on three points apiece, this is simply a winners-take-all clash where Finland will be underdogs but they have shown that they can’t be underestimated after edging out Iceland, before they suffered a narrow defeat to Norway but they do have the attack to get a result here.
Switzerland though will have a lively home crowd motivating them but having not beaten Finland in this competition before at any stage, they are lucky that qualification is in their own hands after a more clinical display against Iceland even if needed to grind it out a bit.
Either way, I expect this to be initially cagey because neither team will want to concede first but with little to split them, I can see them battling hard to an eventual draw.
Prediction: Finland 1-1 Switzerland
Result: Finland 1-1 Switzerland
