Switzerland meet Iceland in a crunch Group A match at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
Having lost their first group matches, defeat could see either Switzerland or Iceland become the first team to be eliminated – which would be guaranteed if Norway and Finland draw their game.
Team News
Switzerland have no fresh injury concerns to report coming into this match, although Smilla Vallotto is a booking away from suspension for the Swiss’ final group match.
Iceland will be without Hildur Antonsdottir following her red card in their opening defeat to Finland in the tournament opener.
When is Kick-Off?
Switzerland face Iceland at Stadion Wankdorf, Bern, at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time) on Sunday 6 July, live on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Switzerland beat Iceland 2-1 in their only previous UEFA Women’s Euro encounter in 2017 at this very same stage of the group phase.
- Iceland are chasing a first UEFA Women’s Euro win over Switzerland.
- Switzerland are looking for only their second group stage victory in this competition (W1, D2, L3).
- Iceland are yet to win their second group match at the UEFA Women’s Euro (D1, L3).
Prediction
Having suffered defeat against Norway despite having led at half time, Switzerland now need to build on the positives and cut out their defensive mistakes because this game could come down to fine margins, given that the loser could well be eliminated.
Iceland though will be desperate to produce a more clinical performance after they were pretty wasteful against Finland despite their initial bright start, so more composure and patience is required in their end product if they’re keep their dreams alive.
Either way, this game is one that both teams won’t want to concede first in for morale’s sake and I can see this being pretty close with a point apiece.
Prediction: Switzerland 1-1 Iceland
Result: Switzerland 2-0 Iceland
