Welsh fullback, Neco Williams has signed a new four-year contract extension to stay at Nottingham Forest until June 2029.
Williams joined Forest from Liverpool in summer 2022 and has gone on to score two goals in 107 appearances, during which he played 39 games last season as the Tricky Trees qualified for Europe with a seventh-placed Premier League finish.
It is unclear whether Forest will complete in Europa League or Conference League due to an issue involving multi-club ownership rules concerning FA Cup winners, Crystal Palace and France’s Lyon.
Forest however had to battle to stay up in their first two seasons back in the top flight after a 23-year absence, which wasn’t lost on Williams as he signed a new four-year contract extension to stay at the City Ground until June 2029.
“This Club has come so far in recent years, and I am proud to be on the journey.
“Everyone knows how ambitious our owner is, and I’m grateful to him for showing belief in me and showing belief in the Club. The future is exciting.
“I am really happy here and I can’t wait to get back to work and go again. The fans at this Club are special and they have supported me since the day I joined.
“For us, it’s a privilege to be playing for a football club with fans like the Forest fans. We are all looking forward to having those European nights at the City Ground and as a team we want to create more memories for everyone attached to Forest.”
Club owner, Evangelos Marinakis added that Forest are a club specifically “for ambitious players; people who want to grow with us on our exciting journey and create special memories. Neco shares our vision for the direction we are going as a Club and he is a key part of our team.”
Forest’s Chief Football Officer, Ross Wilson reflected on Williams’ impact on the team from his versatility as a fullback to personality, which saw him earn this contract extension on merit on top of his senior experience with 140 top-flight appearances across Liverpool and Forest combined.
“As well as his quality, he also brings personality and versatility to the team. Neco has earned this extended contract, and we are all now looking forward to seeing him continue to develop and help us grow ahead of an exciting season. He is extremely ambitious, and I know how exited he and his family are to continue this journey at Nottingham Forest.”
