Goalkeeper, Nathan Bishop has departed Sunderland to join AFC Wimbledon.

Bishop joined Sunderland from Manchester United in summer 2023 and only made two appearances for the Wearside club, before he was loaned out to Wycombe Wanderers and Cambridge United last season.

He however made just five appearances for Wycombe and then 14 for Cambridge Utd as the Us were relegated from League One.

AFC Wimbledon however have swooped for the 25-year-old who was born in Hillingdon, London, as they prepare for life in the third-tier following their promotion via the League Two Play-Offs last season.

Bishop is excited to be embarking on his new chapter under manager, Johnnie Jackson who he considers to be “… a massive part of me joining this fantastic club.

Then I heard about the fans – I am delighted to be here and cannot wait to give everything to the people who built this place brick by brick.”

Jackson added that he is “really pleased” to sign “a goalkeeper of such quality with real experience,” who has represented “some big clubs” in Manchester United and Sunderland, and is confident that Goalkeeping Coach, Ashley Bayes (nicknamed Bayzo) can  get the best out of him.”

Bishop could make his competitive debut for the Dons away at Luton in the opening match of 2025-26 League One season on Friday 1 August at 8pm BST.
