Formula 2 title leader, Alex Dunne will drive for McLaren at the 2025 Formula E rookies’ test in Berlin on Monday 14 July.

Dunne currently leads the F2 standings with two feature-race wins in his rookie campaign in the category and as a member of McLaren’s Young Driver Programme, he has been handed a chance to drive for the constructor’s Formula E team in the rookie test in Berlin, Germany, following the Berlin ePrix on 12-13 July.

The 19-year-old Irishman is currently McLaren’s Formula E reserve driver when the series doesn’t clash with his F2 commitments, meaning that the rookie test is set to mark his second running in Formula E machinery after he first tested the car in a previous rookies test at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Dunne is “very excited” to get the opportunity to build on his previous learnings from Jeddah.

“Since I joined the team as Reserve and Development Driver, I’ve learnt so much about what it takes to get the maximum out of these cars, and I can’t wait to get out on track again.”

McLaren’s Formula E Team Principal, Ian James added: “Having already played a crucial role in supporting the team this season as our Reserve and Development Driver, I’m very pleased that Alex will have another opportunity behind the wheel of the GEN3 Evo at the Berlin Rookie Test.

“Alex has shown to have great pace and skill in Formula 2 this season, and I hope he will take this confidence with him to make the most of this outing in Berlin.”

McLaren’s F1 Academy driver, Ella Lloyd will drive the other McLaren car at the test.
