Goalkeeper, Liam Roberts will depart Millwall upon expiry of his contract on 30 June 2025.
Roberts failed to reach agreement with Millwall over a new contract following weeks of post-season negotiations and has now decided leave upon expiration of his one-year contract on 30 June 2025.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has made a total of six senior appearances for the Lions, which came twice in Championship, Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
His last appearance for Millwall came in the fifth round of the 2024-25 FA Cup in March as he was shown a red card for a reckless sixth-minute foul on Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, which was subsequently extended to six matches whilst Palace won 3-1 eventually.
Millwall issued a statement thanking Roberts “for his effort and professionalism” this season upon confirmation of his departure.
“The club would like to thank Liam for his efforts and professionalism during his time at the club, and wish him and his family the very best of luck for the future.”
Roberts also shared a farewell message for Millwall fans in which he thanked them for their support in the fallout of that dramatic FA Cup tie.
“As I say goodbye to Millwall, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the fans, my team-mates and all the staff,” commented Roberts.
“It has been a real honour to represent this club over the past year and play in front of such a passionate fanbase. Sharing the dressing room with such a special group of players has been a privilege.
“My family and I were shown incredible support during one of the most difficult times in our lives, and we’ll never forget the kindness and care we received from everyone connected to the club. That will stay with us forever.”
Roberts concluded his message by explaining that regular game time is behind his decision to move on after one season at The Den.
“As I look ahead, my main goal is to play regularly and consistently at First-Team level and I’m excited to see what the next chapter holds for me. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I’ll always be grateful for my time here and I wish Millwall nothing but success in the future.”
