Middlesbrough Football Club have sacked Michael Carrick after three seasons in charge.
Carrick arrived at Boro in October 2022 and led the club to the Championship Play-Offs in his first season at the helm, where they lost to Coventry City in the play-off semi-finals.
The following two seasons saw Boro finish eighth and tenth respectively after periods of inconsistency cost them in their play-off pushes within both campaigns, although Carrick led them to the Carabao Cup semi-finals last season for the first time since their title-winning season in 2004.
Chairman, Steve Gibson has consequently undertaken a review and opted to sack Carrick who had faced tough vocal criticism from fans this season.
Carrick’s departure was confirmed in a club statement in which his assistants, Jonathan Woodgate and Graeme Carrick were relieved of their duties.
“Middlesbrough Football Club has today parted company with head coach Michael Carrick.
“Michael’s assistants Jonathan Woodgate and Graeme Carrick have also departed the club.
“We’d like thank Michael, Jonathan, and Graeme for all their hard work and unwavering commitment. We wish them all the very best for the future.
“The club will be making no further comment at this stage.”
