Quick-fire goals from Tommy Conway and Samuel Iling-Junior in the opening eight minutes lifted Middlesbrough up to fifth with a 2-0 victory away at Blackburn.

First-half goals from Ross McCrorie and Nakhi Wells lifted Bristol City into the final play-off spot in sixth position with a 2-1 home win over Watford, although Mamadou Doumbia netted a consolatory 80th-minute effort the Hornets.

Down in the relegation zone, Plymouth moved to within four points of safety with a 2-1 win over Norwich through Ryan Hardie’s first-half brace, despite Josh Sargent’s consolatory goal for the visitors right at the start of the second half.

Charlie Hughes’ 94th-minute header lifted Hull out of the bottom three with victory at Sheffield Wednesday.

Cardiff consequently slipped into the bottom three following a goalless draw at QPR.
