2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League: League A3 – England vs Belgium

England host Belgium in the first of a double-header in League A3 of 2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League.

Victory would put England top if they better Portugal’s result against Spain elsewhere, whilst Belgium could move off the foot of the group table with a win if Spain lose elsewhere.

 

Team News

England will be without Fran Kirby and Chloe Kelly after the pair suffered knocks, although they both should be fit for the return leg in Leuven on Tuesday 8 April.

Belgium have no fresh injury issues to report ahead of this match.

• Belgium lost 1-0 on their only previous Women’s Nations League trip to England in October 2023.
• The team playing at home scored first in each of the two previous Women’s Nations League meetings between England and Belgium.
• England are unbeaten in their four previous Women’s Nations League matches played at home (W4), during which the currently injured Lauren Hemp scored in three of those four fixtures.

Prediction

Having made hard work in their 1-1 away draw against Portugal and clinical narrow home win over Spain in February, Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses now need to be much more clinical once got the opening goal as victories in these two games are a must if want knockout football in the autumn and top this group.

Belgium though gave Spain a massive scare in their opening game but lost 3-2 from two goals up then were narrowly beaten by Portugal, underlining why they can’t be underestimated and this is ideally must-win if want to keep pace in this group and potentially avoid relegation.

England though are difficult to beat at home in this competition and I just don’t see that changing if they can just stay focused defensively and polish their final touch once in front.
