2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: Wales vs Kazakhstan

Wales kick off their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaign against Kazakhstan.

Victory could see Wales or Kazakhstan go top of their Qualifying group if can better the result in Liechtenstein’s fixture against North Macedonia which is played in mid-afternoon.

Team News

Wales have no withdrawals to report with a full squad available for selection, including uncapped Kai Andrews who has received his first senior call-up.

Kazakhstan also have no withdrawals to report with a full squad available for selection.

When is Kick-Off?

Wales host Kazakhstan at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday 22 March at 7:45pm GMT, live on BBC One in Wales plus BBC Three in rest of UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Wales’s first-ever meeting against Kazakhstan in all competitions.
  • Kazakhstan are making their first visit to Wales across all competitions.
  • Harry Wilson scored in both of Wales’ last two home matches in all competitions (W2).
  • Kazakhstan have won just one of their last nine away games in all competitions (W1, L8).

Prediction

Although they suffered just one defeat last year amidst a change of manager in the summer, Wales lacked that winning consistency as they flittered between consecutive rotation of draws and victories (DWDWDW) in six games, so I would like to see them break that habit with a win here.

Kazakhstan though can’t be underestimated because despite a dreadful 2024 results-wise, they made a decent start to this year and can come here off the back of a positive friendly win over Curacao, but Wales will be a huge step up in oppositional quality.

I do feel that Kazakhstan will try and give this game a decent fight but Wales really should claim a routine win here.

Prediction: Wales 2-0 Kazakhstan

Result: Wales 3-1 Kazakhstan
