Kush Maini has been appointed as Alpine Test and Reserve Driver for 2025 F1 season.

Maini is set to compete in F2 with DAMS this season but will also now have extensive F1 duties as Test and Reserve Driver to Alpine’s Jack Doohan and Pierre Gasly, which could see him called up on a F1 weekend if either Doohan or Gasly is unable to participate due to illness or injury.

The 24 year-old will also conduct testing for Alpine across the season.

Speaking about his latest F1 opportunity, Maini said that he is “delighted” to become a F1 Test and Reserve Driver after just one year with the team’s academy.

“Since joining the Alpine Academy ahead of last year, I have been incredibly welcomed in the entire Alpine family and I am thankful to Flavio and Oliver for their continued support.

I am looking forward to getting more track time in Formula One machinery in this role and to build on what I have already learned with the team in 2024.

“I’m very excited to begin the role as soon as possible but for now my focus is on my third season in Formula 2 kicking off this weekend in Australia.”

Alpine Academy Director, Julian Rouse added that he is “very happy” to see Maini step up to the F1 Test and Reserve Driver role at the team this season, having previously conducted Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) with the team’s past cars of recent seasons amongst his F2 duties.

“Kush has impressed the team across his TPC performances and Formula 2 results whilst we have been working with him and we expect he will continue to do so in 2025. His wider role allows us to further expand our pool of driving talent who can provide support and resource to the whole team during the busy season.”
