Brentford’s assistant first-team coach, Justin Cochrane has joined England’s coaching staff under Thomas Tuchel.

Cochrane’s appointment to Tuchel’s coaching staff won’t impact on his role at Brentford after the Bees and English FA reached an agreement for him to hold dual roles for club and country.

“It’s an honour to be asked to work for the senior men’s national team,” commented Cochrane on official confirmation of his new dual role and is excited to have the trust of Brentford to allow him to join England in international windows, whilst continuing in his current position at the Bees.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for me and I’m extremely grateful to Brentford for allowing me to take on this role.

“I’m looking forward to working with the players, meeting the staff and stepping out at Wembley.

“Most of all, I’m looking forward to helping this very talented group achieve its goals.”

Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Giles added that Cochrane’s latest opportunity is testament to his work at the club and is hopeful that he can help England take that huge step forward at 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup.

“Justin has been doing a fantastic job for us over the last two and a half years, and so this recognition of his coaching talent is very well merited.

“I’m sure he will make a positive contribution with the national team, and obviously we all hope that England can go deep into the tournament in 2026.

“The exposure to different coaches, players and opponents will no doubt also be positive for Justin’s ongoing development as a coach, as we envisage him being here with us for many more years to come.”

Cochrane previously worked with England at youth level across Under-15-17s from 2018-21 whilst he completed his UEFA Pro License, and has gone on to work with Tottenham Hotspur, AFC Wimbledon and Manchester United, before he joined Brentford in July 2022.
