Irish striker, Evan Ferguson has joined West Ham on a straight loan from Brighton & Hove Albion until end of 2024-25 season.

After returning from a serious ankle injury which kept him out of the final few weeks of last season under Roberto De Zerbi who left in the summer, Ferguson has struggled for game time under new boss – Fabian Hürzeler with just 398 minutes of play across 15 appearances – in which he made just four starts.

During those appearances, the 20 year-old only played one entire game which came in a 3-2 Fourth Round exit at home to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, which also is his only full outing this season after he failed to complete the entire match in any of his six international appearances for Republic of Ireland.

Hürzeler consequently has permitted Ferguson to go out on loan until the end of the season, in a move which reunites him with his former manager, Graham Potter under who he made his senior debut in a second-round victory over Cardiff in 2021-22 Carabao Cup in the first of five appearances during Potter’s spell at Brighton.

West Ham will cover Ferguson’s wages for the duration of his loan spell in East London with no obligation to buy clause included in the agreement.

“It feels good to be here. Seeing the stadium and being here today, I’ve got a very good feeling,” commented Ferguson to West Ham TV, and he will wear the number 34 shirt.

“I can see and know how big West Ham United is. It was a big opportunity for me to come here. I know the gaffer well and look forward to working under him again.

“I want to come in and do my best for the Club, score goals, and see where we get to.”

Potter added: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Evan in on loan until the end of the season,” said Potter. “He’s a player we obviously know very well, so I’m grateful to the Board for bringing him in.

“He’s got plenty of quality attributes as a striker that we believe will benefit the group over the course of the coming months.

“We’re excited to integrate him into the squad and see him in action in the weeks to come.”

Ferguson could make his debut for West Ham on Saturday 15 February as the Hammers host Brentford in a London derby at the London Stadium in a 3pm GMT kick-off.
