2024-25 Premier League: Week 20 – Man City vs West Ham

Manchester City look for back-to-back wins in a tricky test against West Ham.

Victory could lift Man City up to fifth if Newcastle fail to win away to Tottenham at lunchtime, whilst West Ham could go 11th if Brentford and Spurs fail to win.

Team News

Man City have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 2-0 win at Leicester.

Ederson (leg), Ruben Dias (muscle), John Stones (foot), Matheus Nunes (knock), Oscar Bobb (leg) and Rodri (knee) remain ruled out.

West Ham will have Guido Rodriguez and Tomas Soucek back from suspension, which saw the pair miss a 5-0 loss to Liverpool.

Jarrod Bowen is ruled out with a foot injury.

Lukasz Fabianski (head) and Michail Antonio (leg) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Man City host West Ham at Etihad Stadium on Saturday 4 January at 3pm GMT, untelevised in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Man City are unbeaten in their last 18 league meetings against West Ham (W15, D3).
  • West Ham have lost each of their last eight visits to Man City (L8).
  • Phil Foden has scored three goals in City’s last two home games against West Ham (W2).
  • Four of Man City’s last five league goals at home were scored in the first half.
  • Four of West Ham’s last five league goals on the road came in the second half.

Prediction

With a convincing win now under their belt following a clinical display at Leicester, Man City now need to kick on and produce another confident performance if they want to mount a push for a top-four finish.

West Ham though just didn’t take their chances in a ruthless defeat to Liverpool so must be more clinical if want to win here, but Bowen is a huge loss in terms of their end product with his goalscoring ability.

In fact I just don’t see the Hammers having much to offer quality wise other than sitting deep, so this should be a routine City win.

Prediction: Man City 2-0 West Ham

Result: Man City 4-1 West Ham
