2024-25 League 1: Week 24 – Barnsley vs Wrexham

Barnsley host Wrexham in the first stand-out clash of League One in 2025.

Victory will see Barnsley climb as high as fifth if Stockport and Reading both fail to win elsewhere, whilst Wrexham can go top with a win if Birmingham fail to win at Stockport but a draw might be enough depending on size of a Birmingham defeat.

Team News

Barnsley have no fresh injury issues following their 3-1 win at Peterborough, but Fabio Jalo remains sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Wrexham have no fresh injury concerns to report following a 2-1 home win over Wigan.

Callum Burton (thigh), Jack Marriott (leg) and James Jones (foot) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Barnsley host Wrexham at Oakwell on Wednesday 1 January at 3pm GMT, live on Sky Sports + in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Barnsley have won one of their last eight meetings against Wrexham (W1, D3, L4).
  • Wrexham are winless in 16 previous visits to Barnsley (D4, L12).
  • Two of Barnsley’s last three home games against Wrexham ended in 2-2 draws.
  • Barnsley have won one of their last eight home games in the third-tier (W1, D4, L3).
  • Elliot Lee has scored in each of Wrexham’s last two away games (W1, D1).

Prediction

Although their home form hasn’t been strong in recent months, Barnsley and in particular Davis Keillor-Dunn have built momentum on the road, which they now need to convert into a strong home performance if want to push for the play-offs.

Wrexham though are no pushovers and in form despite their inconsistent away form but after some sloppy performances in the win over Wigan, I do expect changes to be rung here.

Nevertheless I do think that with respective home and away issues for both teams, this will be as tight as it was at Wrexham but both teams should get a point this time.

Prediction: Barnsley 1-1 Wrexham

Result: Barnsley 2-1 Wrexham
