Carlos Corberan has quit his position as West Bromwich Albion manager to take up a role at Valencia.
Corberan arrived at The Hawthorns in October 2022 and took the Baggies to ninth at the end of that season.
Last season saw further progress in his first full season with a fifth-placed league finish, although West Brom lost their Championship play-off semi-final to Southampton – as the Saints ultimately went on to gain promotion.
Despite the club having lost just one of their last 14 matches in which they took three wins and 10 draws during this run, Corberan now has decided to step down following an approach from Spanish club, Valencia.
Late on Xmas Eve, Albion reached agreement with Valencia concerning Corberan’s departure and issued the following statement.
“Albion have reached an agreement in principle for Carlos Corberan to depart the club to pursue a new opportunity with La Liga side Valencia.
“The 41-year-old is set to return to his homeland with the club’s gratitude and best wishes following a two-year tenure at The Hawthorns.
“Chris Brunt, Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill will oversee first-team duties until further notice.
“Sporting Director Andrew Nestor is leading Albion’s search for a new head coach.
“The club will make no further comment at this time.”
Corberan took to social media platform, X, to address his decision to move on in what he considered to be the ‘hardest’ decision of his career, having ‘only felt love’ at the club.

West Brom chairman, Shilen Patel took to X too as he paid tribute to Corberan for his efforts to turn the Baggies into a promotion challenging team.

Corberan has left the Baggies sat outside of the play-off spots in seventh, purely on less goals scored than sixth-placed Middlesbrough.
