Kristoffer Ajer is ruled out for Brentford with a serious ankle injury.

Ajer returned to the Bees’ line-up for their 2-0 Premier League loss at home to Nottingham Forest, but has now suffered an ankle injury which will keep him out for several weeks.

Manager, Thomas Frank described Ajer’s injury as “unlucky” following a clash with Callum Hudson-Odoi

Josh Dasilva, Rico Henry (both knee), Gustavo Nunes (back), Igor Thiago (joint), Sepp van den Berg (groin), Ethan Pinnock, Matias Jensen and Aaron Hickey (all hamstring) remain sidelined for the trip to Brighton on 27 December.

Reflecting on the lengthy injury list, Frank quipped that the injured absentees could form a quality team alone.

“Let’s put it this way, I’ve got a very strong starting XI on the sideline! With the players out, it’s a very strong team.

“But it’s a part of football, we have to deal with it.”

Having endured injury issues throughout last season, Frank believes that Brentford are again “unlucky”, but iterated that investigations might be needed into their number of hamstring injuries.

“The thing we would need to look into is if we had too many hamstring or soft-tissue injuries – that could be an issue or something we could do better. But all that is good.

“The big thing is how we can turn them around quick, and that’s what we’re working on.”
