2024-25 UEFA Champions League: League Phase – Aston Villa vs Juventus

Aston Villa host Juventus in a crucial league phase clash in 2024-25 UEFA Champions League. 

Victory will see Villa stay in the top eight placings and on course to bypass the knockout play-offs, whilst Juventus can leapfrog Villa into the top eight with a win.

 

Team News

Ezri Konsa (hip) and Amadou Onana (foot) could return for Villa after the pair missed Villa’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Boubacar Kamara (knock) and Jacob Ramsey (hamstring) remain absent.

Juventus could welcome Arkadiusz Milik back following his recovery from knee surgery.

Bremer, Juan Cabal (both ACL), Vasilije Adzic, Nicolas Gonzalez (both muscle) and Douglas Luiz (hamstring) are ruled out.

• Villa are winless against Juventus in the Champion League – albeit under its old ‘European Cup’ name in which they met twice (L2).
• Juventus won 2-1 in their only previous visit to Villa Park in March 1983.
• Neither team kept a clean sheet in their two previous meetings, with Juventus scoring five goals to Villa’s two goals.
• Jhon Duran scored in each of Villa’s two home games in this league phase (W2), during which they kept clean sheets on both occasions.
• Three of Juventus’ four away goals in this stage of the competition were scored by Dusan Vlahovic (W1, D1).

 

Prediction

Although their recent form has been inconsistent, Villa did incredibly well to clinically come from behind twice against Palace but looked vulnerable defensively on the counter-attack which needs to improve in this game.

Juventus though are missing Gonzalez who is one of their best threats but they are a solid cohesive unit to break down, which could pose a huge issue for Villa.

Unai Emery’s Villains though can take heart from how they stayed calm against Palace so should get a result here, especially if they can limit Juventus’ attacking pace.
