F3 champion, Leonardo Fornaroli will replace Zane Maloney at Rodin Motorsport for the 2024 F2 season finale in Abu Dhabi.
Maloney will drive in F2 for the final time in Qatar next weekend, before he joins Formula E which starts the 2024-25 season in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a week later on 7 December on the same weekend as F2 concludes.
Rodin have consequently opted to call up Fornaroli as Maloney’s replacement in Abu Dhabi, giving the Italian a taster ahead of his full-time debut next season with Invicta Racing.
Speaking about his chance to get into F2 machinery earlier than planned, Fornaroli commented: “I’m very grateful to be able to do the last round of the F2 Championship with Rodin Motorsport, who are such a good team in the series.
“It will be a big challenge for me because this is my first time in the F2 car without any practice, so I have a lot to learn. But I can’t wait for it, and I’m looking forward to being behind the wheel in Abu Dhabi.”
Maloney sent his best wishes to Fornaroli as he reflected on his time with the team:”I wish Leo a great weekend in Abu Dhabi.
“I will miss working with the Rodin Motorsport team and look forward to seeing their success in the future! But we still have one more weekend in Qatar to look ahead to and finish off our season strongly.”
Rodin Team Manager, Benn Huntingford is excited to secure Fornaroli for the season finale, whilst he also wishes Maloney well in Formula E.
“It’s great to welcome Leo to the team for the final round of the season. It’s going to be a step up for him, but we’ve seen what he can do in Formula 3, and we’re confident he’ll adapt quickly and perform well.
“Obviously, we still have one more round in Qatar to look forward to with Zane on board before he begins his Formula E season; we thank him for his contributions and wish him the best in his new venture.”
