2024-25 Sky Bet Championship: Week 16 – Saturday

Millwall host Sunderland at The Den in a huge Championship clash.

Victory could put Millwall fifth if West Brom and Middlesbrough both fail to win elsewhere, whilst Sunderland can stay top with a win.

Team News

Calum Scanlon is ruled out for Millwall with a back injury.

Adam Mayor (hamstring) and Billy Mitchell (hip) are unlikely to be available.

Sunderland could welcome Anthony Patterson (knock) and Aji Alese (ankle) back into contention.

Alan Browne and Romaine Mundle however are ruled out with respective leg and hamstring injuries, whilst Patrick Roberts and Trai Hume are serving one match bans following their fifth bookings of the season.

Jobe Bellingham (suspension), Ian Poveda, Salis Abdul Samed (both muscle), Ahmed Abdullahi (groin), Jenson Seelt, and Niall Huggins (both knee) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Millwall host Sunderland at The Den on Saturday 23 November at 3pm GMT, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Millwall have lost one of their last six meetings against Sunderland (W1, D4, L1).
  • Sunderland are winless in each of their last five league visits to Millwall (D3, L2).
  • Each of Millwall’s last three home games against Sunderland ended in a 1-1 draw, with the Lions scoring first in their last two clashes in South London.
  • Millwall have won each of their last three home matches by a 1-0 result.
  • Sunderland are unbeaten in their last 11 regular-season trips to London-based opposition (W4, D7).

Prediction

Unbeaten in nine of their last ten matches and having grinded out a mix of narrow wins or draws in their last seven, Millwall certainly have the quality to trouble Sunderland with their resilience and ruthless pieces of clinical play.

Sunderland though grinded out draws in each of their last three games but to blow their 2-0 lead over Coventry and snatch a draw is a worry, yet the break has presented a chance to regroup and come back at their best.

I however do expect Sunderland’s habit of drawing away at London-based clubs to continue, as Millwall should have enough to hold them here.

Prediction: Millwall 1-1 Sunderland

Result: Millwall 1-1 Sunderland
