2024-25 Premier League: Week 12 – Leicester vs Chelsea

Enzo Maresca returns to the King Power Stadium as Chelsea visit Leicester City.

Victory would lift Leicester up to 14th in the table, whilst Chelsea will stay third with a win unless Arsenal win and can better their goal difference.

 

Team News

Abdul Fatawu is ruled out for the remainder of the season for Leicester after he suffered an ACL injury.

Bobby Reid (Achilles), Patson Daka (ankle), Jamie Vardy (back) and Jordan Ayew (knee) could feature if fit, but Ricardo Pereira (muscle) is sidelined for up to four months.

Jakub Stolarczyk (ankle) remains absent.

Chelsea will welcome Jadon Sancho after illness kept him sidelined just before the international break.

Reece James (hamstring) is ruled out and joins Omari Kellyman (hamstring) on the sidelines.

Malo Gusto (ankle), Wesley Fofana, Cole Palmer (both knee), Romeo Lavia (hamstring) and Levi Colwill (knock) are expected to be available.

• Chelsea have lost one of their last five league visits to Leicester (W2, D2, L1).
• Leicester have conceded three goals in each of their last two home games against Chelsea, which both ended in defeats (L2).
• Steve Cooper’s Leicester have scored one goal in each of their five league matches at home this season (W1, D2, L2).
• Chelsea have kept just two clean sheets in eight away matches in all competitions this season.

 

Prediction

Sat just three points above the drop following a wasteful performance in their defeat at Manchester United, Leicester need to be more ruthlessly clinical in their shot conversion if want to get any result to reduce pressure on Cooper.

Chelsea meanwhile dug deep to snatch a fair 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal in their last outing in an fairly even game, but I do expect them to be more dominant here although the Foxes won’t be easy to shut out.

I however do expect Enzo Maresca’s Blues to get three points here if their attack is firing on all cylinders, especially with Palmer well-rested following his withdrawal from international duty.
