Brighton & Hove Albion meet defending champions, Liverpool in a huge Fourth Round tie in 2024-25 Carabao Cup.
Victory would see Brighton reach the Quarter-Finals for the first time since 1978-79 season, whilst Liverpool look to progress past this stage for the third time in four seasons.
Team News
Lewis Dunk is very unlikely to be available for Brighton after he missed their 2-2 Premier League draw against Wolves with a muscle injury.
Solly March (knee), James Milner, Adam Webster (both hamstring), Yankuba Minteh (muscle), Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley (both ankle) remain absent.
Liverpool could welcome Conor Bradley back into contention after he missed their last three games with an unspecified injury.
Alisson (hamstring), Diogo Jota (rib), Federico Chiesa (knock) and Harvey Elliott (foot) remain sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Brighton host Liverpool at AMEX Stadium on Wednesday 30 October at 7:30pm GMT, live on Sky Sports Football in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Brighton have lost both of their two previous League Cup ties against Liverpool, by 4-0 result in October 1985 then 2-1 in September 2011.
- Liverpool won 2-1 in their only previous League Cup visit to Brighton in September 2011.
- Brighton have lost one of their last five meetings at home to Liverpool in all competitions (W2, D2, L1).
- Simon Adingra has scored in both of Brighton’s two League Cup matches this season (W2).
- Liverpool have lost one of their last five away League Cup ties against fellow top-flight opposition – excluding ties at neutral venue (W3, D1, L1).
Prediction
Having dominated much of their game against Wolves, Brighton will be disappointed at how they blew the win with a late defensive switch-off but they can’t afford more of the same here if they want to win as they’re capable of.
Liverpool meanwhile battled from behind twice to draw at Arsenal but they did look vulnerable from set-pieces, which needs to be better despite the squad rotation that will come into effect here.
Both teams though will meet in the league at Anfield on Saturday so neither club will want to show their cards here, but Brighton are tough to beat at home currently so I am going for the Seagulls to scrape through.
Prediction: Brighton 2-1 Liverpool
Result: Brighton 2-3 Liverpool
