Newcastle United host title-chasing Manchester City at St James’ Park in a huge Premier League clash.
Victory would put Newcastle up to second ahead of the mid-afternoon kick-offs, whilst Man City will stay top for another week with a win.
Team News
Alexander Isak is a doubt for Newcastle as he continues to struggle with a toe injury.
Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles (both knee), Lewis Miley (metatarsal) and Callum Wilson (back) remain absent.
Man City will be without Rodri after he suffered a serious knee injury in their 2-2 draw against Arsenal last weekend.
Kevin De Bruyne (hamstring) is a doubt but Nathan Ake (thigh) and Oscar Bobb (leg) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Newcastle host Man City at St James Park on Saturday 28 September at 12:30pm BST, live on TNT Sport 1 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Newcastle are winless in their last 10 league meetings against Man City (D2, L8).
- Man City are unbeaten in their last five league visits to Newcastle (W3, D2).
- Bernardo Silva has scored in each of Man City’s last two league visits to Newcastle.
- Alexander Isak has been caught offside on more occasions than any other Newcastle player this season (4).
- Manuel Akjani has made more headed clearances than any other City player this season (8).
Prediction
Having had a week to reflect upon a disjointed defeat at Fulham with some poor attacking runs amidst poor marking, Newcastle now need to put those lessons into practice in a tough test of their early credentials.
Man City meanwhile deserved a point for their battling efforts against Arsenal despite conceding twice from set pieces, but they shouldn’t have too much trouble adapting to Rodri’s absence with Ilkay Gundogan available to step in.
Goals though are surely guaranteed but I can’t see Man City losing this given their form.
Prediction: Newcastle United 1-2 Manchester City
Result: Newcastle United 1-1 Manchester City
