2024-25 Carabao Cup: Third Round – Wycombe vs Aston Villa

Wycombe Wanderers face Aston Villa at Adams Park in the third round of 2024-25 Carabao Cup.

Victory would see Wycombe reach the fourth round for the first time since their semi-final run in 2006-07 season.

Villa meanwhile look to progress beyond this stage for the first time since 2020-21 season.

Team News

Luke Leahy could return for Wycombe after a month out with a knee injury.

David Wheeler (unspecified) and Fred Onyedinma (fitness) could also feature but Brandon Hanlan (ACL), Gideon Kodua, Nathan Bishop, Sam Vokes and Ryan Tafazolli (all unspecified) remain ruled out.

Aston Villa will be without John McGinn after the midfielder suffered a hamstring injury in their comeback 3-1 Premier League win over Wolves.

Jaden Philogene Bidace (unspecified) is a doubt for selection.

Matty Cash (hamstring), Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings (both knee) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Wycombe host Villa at Adams Park on Tuesday 24 September at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports Football in the UK.

Prediction

Unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions and having dominated Cambridge on Saturday, Wycombe certainly can’t be underestimated coming into this game with their momentum and direct play.

Villa though will be favourites even though Unai Emery will rotate his team quite heavily, but they must be more clinical than they were for much of their eventual win over Wolves.

Adams Park though has been a favourable ground for Villa and I can’t see anything other than another dominant result, especially if those who come in can step up and deliver.

Prediction: Wycombe 0-2 Aston Villa

Result: Wycombe 1-2 Aston Villa
