Brentford Head Coach, Thomas Frank has confirmed Yoane Wissa is ruled out for two months with an ankle injury.

Wissa was substituted at half-time after he was recklessly tackled by Mateo Kovacic in the Bees’ 2-1 Premier League defeat at Manchester City.

Scans have since confirmed that Wissa has suffered an ankle injury which will keep him out for two months, as announced by Frank in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Bees’ third round tie against Leyton Orient in this season’s Carabao Cup.

“Wissa is, unfortunately, not good news: it looks like an injury that will be a couple of months.”

Frank proceeded to describe his injury crisis as “very frustrating” with Gustavo Nunes and Mathias Jensen also amongst those out.

“It’s very frustrating. We talked about our many injuries last year, I hope I don’t have to talk too much about it this year, I maybe already have.”

The Dane though has vowed to “move on” and has challenged his players to find ways to perform without Wissa, who he considers to be a key player.

“He’s just been very important for us and that’s going to leave a hole. But, again, I will find a solution.”

Frank went on to acknowledge that Wissa’s injury is a huge loss up front and “will leave a big hole.”

Summer signing, Igor Thiago would be many fans’ favourite to fill Wissa’s spot but he too is sidelined, having suffered a knee injury during pre-season.

Frank though noted that Thiago had only been brought “to build the squad and provide competition in the squad.”
