Wales host Turkey in their opening League B clash in 2024-25 UEFA Nations League.
Victory would put Wales or Turkey top of the group if can better Iceland’s result against Montenegro.
Team News
Daniel James is ruled out for Wales after he missed Leeds’ win over Hull with a hamstring injury.
Rabbi Matondo has also withdrawn after he suffered a hamstring injury in Rangers’ Old Firm derby loss to Celtic.
Turkey will be without forward, Semih Kilicsoy due to injury.
When is Kick-Off?
Wales host Turkey at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday 6 September at 7:45pm BST, live on S4C in the UK.
Stat Attack
- This is Wales’ first Nations League meeting against Turkey.
- Turkey are yet to win away to Wales in all competitions (D2, L2).
- Wales have kept clean sheets in three of four home games against Turkey.
- Wales have kept clean sheets in two of four games in 2024 (W1, D2, L1).
- Turkey have scored first in four of their last five matches (W3, L2).
Prediction
Although it is slightly disappointing to have seen Rob Page depart following an experimental pair of flop friendlies in June, Wales now have to reset under Craig Bellamy but a high-risk pressing style feels dangerous in this game.
Turkey meanwhile did incredibly well to reach the Quarter-Finals of Euro 2024 with strong attacking play, but their defence did look vulnerable at times.
A strong start is therefore imperative for Wales to put Turkey’s defence under pressure, otherwise I see the Turkish getting a first win on Welsh soil.
Prediction: Wales 1-2 Turkey
Result: Wales 0-0 Turkey
