2024-25 Premier League: Week Three – Chelsea vs Crystal Palace

Chelsea host Crystal Palace in a London derby at Stamford Bridge.

Victory could put Chelsea as high as fifth depending on the result of Newcastle’s clash against Tottenham.

Palace can climb out of the relegation zone with a win.

Team News

Chelsea have no fresh injury concerns to report following their defeat at Servette in UEFA Conference League, even though they won that tie on aggregate.

Romeo Lavia and Reece James remain sidelined with hamstring injuries.

Palace will be without Chadi Riad after he suffered a knee injury during their Carabao Cup win over Norwich.

Matheus Franca (rib) remains absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Chelsea host Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday 1 September at 1:30pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Chelsea have won their last 13 league meetings against Palace (W13).
  • Palace have lost each of their last seven league visits to Chelsea (L7).
  • Both teams have scored in three of their last four league meetings, except for a 1-0 home win for Chelsea in January 2023.
  • Chelsea lost just one of their six London derbies at home last season in the top-flight (W4, D1, L1).
  • Palace are yet to win a London derby away from home under Oliver Glasner (D1, L1).

Prediction

Despite making several changes away to Servette, Chelsea were lucky to win on aggregate but I am expecting a much better performance with some key players back in contention.

Palace meanwhile didn’t take their chances against West Ham with some sloppy errors, so it is imperative that they cut those mistakes out because this won’t be an easy game but they do have the quality to get something if play their best.

Chelsea though are Palace’s hoodoo and on current form, I can’t see that changing.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Crystal Palace

Result: Chelsea 1-1 Crystal Palace
