Defender, Jayden Meghoma has joined Brentford from Southampton for £10m.

Meghoma is considered a future talent and is currently part of the England Under-19s squad, with Brentford having paid a £10m total fee to Southampton, comprised of £5m initial payment plus a further £5m in add-ons.

Meghoma has signed a four-year contract until June 2028 with a club option to extend for a further two years, with the move coming after he made four senior appearances for the Saints last season in cup competitions.

“I’m very pleased with this signing,” commented Head Coach, Thomas Frank who believes that the 18 year-old has the potential to further develop into a top player.

“Jayden is an England youth international and one of the biggest left-back talents this country has.”

Frank proceeded to praise Meghoma for his ability and potential as he continued: “I like Jayden’s offensive ability – he is quick, has good one-on-one skill and can cross – and he has good defensive ability as well.

“He is adaptable and can play outside or inside full-back.

“There is still a lot he can learn, but Jayden is a player we have big belief in. He can help us this season and in the future.”

Meghoma echoed Frank’s views on his ability as he further expanded on his style of play.

“I like attacking. With modern-day full-backs nowadays, you’re required to attack and defend; I feel like a big part of my game is going forward.

“I’m quite a versatile player, I’m fast, I’m good at dribbling, and I think my crossing is good at finding team-mates.

“Having that relationship with my winger is also a good thing that I like to have to progress up the pitch.”

The youngster also spoke of feeling “honestly delighted to be here,” and getting to meet the club staff.

“It’s been an amazing feeling meeting Thomas Frank and everybody here. It’s an amazing feeling to finally be here.

“Thomas was a big factor in me coming here in the first place. He really sold the project well to me and I feel like this is a place where I can further my development, so I’m really excited to start.

“As a young player, that was one of the main factors that appealed to me and to Brentford: the style of play, the way Thomas is with young players and how he conducts himself is amazing. Just speaking to him sold it to me.

“I want to be a Premier League football player, I want to play a lot of minutes for Brentford, and ultimately be the best player I can be.”
