Brentford have signed 18 year-old forward, Gustavo Nunes from Gremio for £10.2m.

Nunes’ move comes as Brentford looked to boost their attack in the wake of Igor Thiago’s knee injury in pre-season, whilst Ivan Toney is linked with a move away from the club as the summer transfer window nears its close.

Brentford have paid a £10.2m transfer fee for Nunes but Brazilian club, Gremio has a 20% sell-on clause attached to the transfer.

Nunes has signed a six-year contract until 2030 with the club having an option to activate a further two-year contract extension.

In his first interview as a Brentford player, Nunes spoke of his excitement to play in the Premier League and under Head Coach, Thomas Frank.

“I am really looking forward to playing in the Premier League. It has always been my dream to play in this league, so I have the pleasure of joining this competition.

“Brentford was the first club to make an offer. I had a really good conversation with representatives and it was the club I chose. It is an incredible feeling. I am glad to be here at such a huge club.

“Thomas Frank is a manager who will help me improve a lot; he will help me do a good job and grow.”

Teasing what fans can expect, Nunes quipped: “Brentford fans can expect to see a lot of one one-on-one dribbling, speed and goals!

“I want to thank all of the supporters for the warm welcome and I hope to see you soon, scoring goals and bringing happiness to you.”

“I am very excited that we have managed to sign Gustavo,” commented Head Coach, Thomas Frank. “It is another good signing; we have fought with other clubs.

“He is a winger who can go past players one-on-one. He is direct and he can create.

“Gustavo has a lot of potential and of course we need to maximise that in every aspect. He needs time to settle, but this is a very exciting signing.”

Nunes began his career at Gremio at the age of 15 and made his debut in Copa FGF last year, where he made three appearances for his club.

This year saw him break through into the first team as a regular with seven goals in 40 appearances across all competitions.
