Burnley have signed defender, Bashir Humphreys from Chelsea on a season-long loan with option to buy.
Humphreys spent last season in the Championship on loan at Swansea where he scored one goal in 26 appearances, as the Swans recovered from a difficult first half of the season to finish 14th in the table.
His performances however weren’t enough to earn him a regular spot in Chelsea’s first-team under Enzo Maresca, which saw the Blues instead opt to loan him out to Burnley who will have an option to buy him next summer.
Speaking upon confirmation of his loan switch, Humphreys commented: “It feels great! It’s an amazing club! It makes so much sense for the next step in my career.”
“Burnley is a club with huge ambitions, the owners know what they’re doing, and they really want to push the club on as much as possible.”
“The Gaffer here is great! I had really good conversations with him and that’s always pivotal when it comes to transfers. It was completely perfect, everything he was saying to me.
“He knew about my game; he wants to work with me and help me improve. That’s all you want to hear as a player.”
The 21 year-old began his career with Reading’s academy but went on to spend time in grassroots football, before he joined Chelsea in 2017 at Under-15s level of their academy.
Humphreys now has left Stamford Bridge having made just two senior appearances – which came in a FA Cup loss to Manchester City in January 2023, then a Carabao Cup win over AFC Wimbledon in August of that year.
The defender also spent time at SC Paderborn on loan in the second half of 2022-23 season, in which he produced one assist in 13 appearances.
