Fulham have signed defender, Jorge Cuenca from Villarreal for £6.8m.
Cuenca’s move ended his four-year stint at Villarreal in which he scored three goals and contributed one assist in 60 senior appearances, which all came in the last two seasons following loan spells at Almeria and Getafe.
Fulham have paid a £6.8m fee for the 24 year-old defender, although Barcelona will receive £1.36m of the fee due to a 20% sell-on clause inserted in his transfer from the Catalonian club to Villarreal in September 2020.
Speaking to FFCtv about his move to West London on a four-year contract with option for a further year, Cuenca commented: “I’m really, really happy. I’m so proud to be here. I’m so happy to be here and to play for Fulham.
“The Club is an historical club and Craven Cottage is an historical stadium. I prefer Fulham because of the city, the Club, obviously the historical stadium, and I want to play in the Premier League.”
Vice-Chairman and Director of Football Operations, Tony Khan added that he is “happy” to sign “… a talented young player, we expect that he’ll continue to develop under Marco’s great coaching, and believe that he’ll be a great asset to the squad!”
Cuenca has already joined up with the squad in pre-season training out in the Algarve, Portugal.
