St Pauli have signed defender, Fin Stevens from Brentford for an undisclosed fee.
Since his arrival at Brentford in 2020, Stevens made nine senior appearances for Thomas Frank’s Bees across the last three seasons.
During that time, he enjoyed loan spells at Swansea and Oxford United in which he made 48 total appearances across both clubs.
It however was at Oxford Utd where he enjoyed a breakthrough season with one goal and five assists in 43 appearances across all competitions, as he helped the club gain promotion from League One to the Championship via Play-Offs.
St Pauli meanwhile last season gained promotion to Bundesliga under now Brighton boss – Fabian Hürzeler, and have signed Stevens to boost their defensive options heading into their first top-flight campaign since 2010-11 season.
The 21 year-old has signed an undisclosed contract for an undisclosed fee following agreement between both clubs, although Stevens is “delighted” to move into Bundesliga following “excellent talks” with St Pauli.
St Pauli Head Coach, Alexander Blessin added: “Fin prefers to play on the right-hand side but can also be deployed on the left.
“He’s a full-back who likes to drive forward and get into deep positions. He anticipates well and is brave and aggressive in the tackle, switching the play quickly after winning the ball.”
Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Giles described Stevens’ transfer as “an excellent move” for the youngster, who he felt needed to go on loan again this season prior to St Pauli’s move for him.
“He did well at Oxford last season but realistically was in need of at least one more loan before he would be in competition for a full-back role in our first team.
“Sometimes it is therefore better for a player, and better for the club, if that player continues to develop and grow in a new environment with different demands and opportunities.”
