UEFA Euro 2024: Group Stage – Slovakia vs Romania

Slovakia face Romania in a winners-take-all encounter in their final Group E fixture at UEFA Euro 2024.

Slovakia will advance with a top-two finish if they win but a draw would see them finish third, whilst they can top Group E with victory if Ukraine fail to beat Belgium.

Romania will progress as one of the top two teams if they avoid defeat but a win would see them top the group if Belgium fail to beat Ukraine.

Team News

Slovakia have no fresh injury concerns following their defeat to Ukraine with a full squad available for selection.

When is Kick-Off?

Slovakia face Romania at Waldstadion, Frankfurt, on Wednesday 26 June at 6pm CEST, live on BBC2 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Slovakia’s first meeting against Romania at European Championships Finals.
  • Including Qualifying, Romania are yet to lose to Slovakia in four previous meetings at Euros (W3, D1).
  • Each of Slovakia’s two goals in the group have been scored by Ivan Schranz.
  • Dennis Man has been involved in more goals than any other Romania player at this tournament, having produced two assists in their 3-0 win over Ukraine.

Prediction

Having blown an one-goal lead against Ukraine with a wasteful second half, Slovakia’s fate is now in their own hands because they realistically need to win but a draw could well be enough but there will be one eye on Belgium’s clash with Ukraine from a mathematical perspective.

Romania likewise know that their fate is too in their own hands but after being clinically beaten by Belgium in a game that on another day would of finished 1-1, they just need to reset and rediscover their clinical end product if want to win this game.

I however do expect this clash to be cagey if not scrappy and a draw might suit both teams nicely.

Prediction: Slovakia 1-1 Romania

Result: Slovakia 1-1 Romania
