Georgia look to keep their knockout dreams alive against already qualified Portugal in Group F at UEFA Euro 2024.
Only victory would see Georgia stand any chance of progressing should Czech Republic fail to beat Turkey, whilst Portugal are already through as Group F winners.
Team News
Georgia have no fresh injury or suspension concerns to report following their 1-1 draw against Czech Republic, although Guram Kashia will miss their next match if he’s booked here.
Portugal have no fresh injury issues but Rafael Leao is suspended after he picked up his second yellow card in their win over Turkey.
When is Kick-Off?
Georgia face Portugal at Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen, on Wednesday 26 June at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on ITV1 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Georgia are playing Portugal for the first time at European Championships Finals.
- Portugal won 2-0 in their only previous meeting against Georgia through first-half goals from Joao Moutinho and Simao, which came in a friendly in May 2008.
- Both of Georgia’s two goals in this group were scored by Georges Mikautadze before half-time.
- One of Portugal’s goals in each of their wins over Czech Republic and Turkey came from an own-goal.
Prediction
Knowing that only victory would be enough to extend their tournament, Georgia really need to just throw everything at this game as minnows and ideally score first then either kick on or produce a defensive masterclass.
Portugal meanwhile are already through so can afford to relax a bit after a ruthless demolition of Turkey but I do expect them to still be strong, especially with a chance to finish this group unbeaten which would give them momentum going into the knockouts.
In fact, I just don’t see Georgia offering too much to defeat Portugal here.
Prediction: Georgia 0-2 Portugal
Result: Georgia 2-0 Portugal
