Scotland face a must-win Group A clash against Switzerland in their second match of UEFA Euro 2024.
Should Hungary fail to beat Germany in the teatime kick-off, Scotland can go third with a win whilst Switzerland can secure their knockout spot and possibly go top if can better Germany’s goal difference.
Team News
Ryan Porteous is suspended for Scotland’s two remaining group matches, after he was sent off in their 5-1 tournament-opening loss to Germany.
Switzerland could welcome Denis Zakaria back from a thigh injury but Steven Zuber (fitness) is a doubt.
When is Kick-Off?
Scotland face Switzerland at RheinEngerieStadion, Cologne, on Wednesday 19 June at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on BBC1 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Scotland won their only previous Euro meeting against Switzerland by a 1-0 result in June 1996 at Euro 96 (W1).
- Switzerland are yet to score against Scotland at a major tournament.
- Scotland have scored twice and conceded eight goals in their last two group matches at the Euros (L2).
- Switzerland have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four matches at the Euros (W2, D2).
Prediction
After a brutal defeat to Germany in their opening game, Scotland have to just forget that game and reset mentally if want to win this game, especially if can deliver more determination and fight than they mustered up in Munich.
Switzerland meanwhile clinically cruised past a lacklustre Hungary but they surely will believe that Scotland will provide a proper fight, but if the Swiss can control the game and press like they did against Hungary then they should secure their place in the knockouts.
All pressure though will be on Scotland who really need something from this game given their awful goal difference, especially if want to advance as one of four best third-placed teams but I don’t see them having enough here.
Prediction: Scotland 1-2 Switzerland
Result: Scotland 1-1 Switzerland
