Roundup of Semi-Final action in 2023-24 UEFA Europa League.
Bundesliga champions, Bayer Leverkusen looked to extend their unbeaten season as they met AS Roma in a mouth-watering semi-final.
Atalanta meanwhile met three-time runners-up, Marseille in an intriguing semi-final tie between two unfancied teams.
Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 AS Roma
Goals from Florian Wirtz and Robert Andrich saw Leverkusen cruise to a clinical first leg victory away to Roma.
Leandro Paredes’ brace of penalties in the second leg put Roma on course to force extra time with the tie aggregate at 2-2, until Gianluca Mancini’s own-goal and Josip Stanisic’s late strike rescued Leverkusen a 2-2 draw to advance 4-2 on aggregate into the final.
That dramatic comeback draw also saw Leverkusen create history with a new unbeaten European record of 49 consecutive matches in all competitions.
Marseille 1-4 Atalanta
Gianluca Scamacca’s 11th minute opening goal for Atalanta was cancelled out by Chancel Mbemba’s equaliser nine minutes later for Marseille, as a tightly-fought first leg finished 1-1 at Marseille’s Stade Velodrome.
Atalanta however dominated the second leg at home with a 3-0 win courtesy of goals from Ademola Lookman, Matteo Ruggeri and El Bilal Toure, which wrapped up a 4-1 aggregate victory and a place in their first-ever major final in all UEFA competitions.
