Burnley continue their fight for Premier League survival against top-six chasing Newcastle United at Turf Moor.
Victory could see Burnley climb out of the relegation zone if Luton and Nottingham Forest lose elsewhere this weekend, whilst Newcastle can go sixth with a win.
Team News
Luca Koleosho is set to return for Burnley following his recovery from a lengthy knee injury.
Jordan Beyer (thigh), Ameen Al-Dakhil (unspecified), Nathan Redmond (hamstring) and Aaron Ramsey (knee) remain absent.
Newcastle will be without defender, Fabian Schar after he suffered a hamstring injury during their home win over Sheffield United.
Nick Pope (shoulder), Kieran Trippier (calf), Matt Targett, Joe Willock (both Achilles), Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles (both ACL), Lewis Miley (back), Miguel Almiron (knee), Sandro Tonali (suspension), and Joelinton (quad) remain ruled out.
When is Kick-Off?
Burnley face Newcastle at Turf Moor on Saturday 4 May at 3pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Burnley are winless in their last six league meetings against Newcastle (D1, L5).
- Newcastle have won three of their last five league visits to Burnley (W3, L2).
- Burnley have lost each of their last two home games against Newcastle by 2-1 results (L2).
- Jacob Bruun Larsen has scored in two of Burnley’s last three home matches (W1, D2).
- Three of Alexander Isak’s five penalty goals for Newcastle this season has come in the second half.
Prediction
Still two points below safety and with a trip to Tottenham next weekend before hosting Forest on a potential final-day decider, Burnley realistically need to make home advantage count and win this game after a positive display in their draw at Man Utd.
I however do feel that we need to see Vincent Kompany’s Clarets show some tidier end product here if they want to stay up, especially given their recent poor head-to-head form against Newcastle so the first goal will be vital to the outcome of this match.
Newcastle though can’t afford another sloppy defensive start like they had at home to Sheffield Utd but they did deliver a ruthless comeback win once they hit their groove, although Schar will be a huge loss at the back given his recent form and importance defensively.
This game therefore has the makings of a good competitive scrap especially if Burnley can dig in but they really could do with scoring first then holding out with a gutsy defensive effort, otherwise I can see Newcastle getting at least one point.
Prediction: Burnley 1-1 Newcastle
Result: Burnley 1-4 Newcastle
