European-qualification chasing Chelsea entertain relegation-battling Burnley at Stamford Bridge.
Victory would put Chelsea ninth in the table for a few hours at minimum, whilst Burnley could move to within two points of safety with a win if results elsewhere swing in their favour.
Team News
Ben Chilwell is a doubt for Chelsea after he suffered a minor knee issue during England’s friendly draw against Belgium.
Malo Gusto (illness) and Enzo Fernandez (international duty) are also expected to be available for selection on matchday.
Robert Sanchez, Trevoh Chalobah (both unspecified), Levi Colwill (toe), Reece James, Lesley Ugochukwu, Christopher Nkunku (all hamstring), Carney Chukwuemeka (knock), Wesley Fofana (ACL), and Romeo Lavia (thigh) remain ruled out.
Burnley will be without loanee, David Datro Fofana because he is ineligible to face his parent club.
Jordan Beyer (thigh) and Ameen Al-Dakhil (unspecified) could be available but Nathan Redmond (hamstring), Aaron Ramsey and Luca Koleosho (both knee) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Chelsea host Burnley on Easter Saturday 30 March in a 3pm GMT kick-off at Stamford Bridge, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 10 meetings against Burnley (W8 D2).
- Burnley have won one of their eight previous Premier League visits to Chelsea (W1, D3, L4).
- None of Chelsea’s 18 different goalscorers against Burnley in the Premier League still play for the Blues.
- Three of Chelsea’s six league goals at home in 2024 have been scored by Cole Palmer.
- Only two of Burnley’s 29 league goals have been scored from the penalty spot this season.
Prediction
Currently on the cusp of the battle for European qualification and through to the FA Cup semi-finals, Chelsea have two paths to Europe available but the league path looks more likely but they can’t afford more defensive howlers like we saw against Leicester in their FA Cup Quarter-Final.
In fact I would say that Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues are lucky to have won that game due to the extra-man advantage late on, but they can’t afford any more howlers if want to kick on for a top-ten finish.
Burnley meanwhile seem to have finally found some gears recently and delivered a clinical win over Brentford last time out, but they need to use that as a launchpad especially now that survival is a distinct prospect if can build momentum.
I however do feel that Fofana’s absence will hurt them but Chelsea can be unpredictable even when cruising, although I can’t see the Blues conceding here.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Burnley
Result: Chelsea 2-2 Burnley
