Japanese defender, Takehiro Tomiyasu has committed his future to Arsenal with a new long-term contract.
Tomiyasu joined Mikel Arteta’s Gunners from Bologna in August 2021 on an initial four-year deal – with option for a further year, and has since gone on to score one goal in 73 appearances for the North London club.
Tomiyasu’s only goal for the club came in the 96th minute of a 5-0 home victory over Sheffield United in October 2023, as he poked in their fifth goal from Mohamed Elneny’s assist.
Speaking about Tomiyasu’s decision to stay with the club and sign a new contract, Arteta commented: “We are so pleased to have Tomi commit his future with us. Together with his natural ability and strength, Tomi’s attitude, mentality and values are first-class.
“Tomi is loved by everyone and has been an integral part of the squad since joining us.
“The way he trains, with his desire and determination to be the best version of himself every day is admirable. We look forward to continue working with Tomi in the future years.”
Arsenal’s Sporting Director, Edu added: “We are very excited to have Tomi with us for more years to come. He has huge qualities both on and off the pitch, and offers so much strength and versatility to our squad.
“Tomi is a top professional and it’s great that he’ll continue to play an important role in the coming years, as we work towards achieving our goals.”
Arsenal announced Tomiyasu’s new contract in a new video starring the defender himself as he spoke of the importance of dedication and determination to succeed at the club.
