Newcastle United have announced a post-season tour in Melbourne, Australia, in May 2024.
Eddie Howe’s Magpies will head Down Under for friendly fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and A-League All Stars.
The friendly against Tottenham will take place on Wednesday 22 May at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday 22 May at 7:45pm AEST local time, just three days after Newcastle finish their Premier League campaign on Sunday 19 May away at Brentford.
That fixture will also be a chance for the Melbourne-based fans to see their hometown hero – Ange Postecoglou in action as Tottenham manager, with the 58 year-old having grown up in the city since he moved from Athens, Greece, at five-years old.
Newcastle will then participate in a double-header at Marvel Stadium on Friday 24 May as they face A-League All-Stars Men at 5:15pm AEST, before the first-ever A-League All-Stars Women face Arsenal Women at 8:05pm that same evening.
Howe welcomed these post-season friendlies which will allow the Magpies’ Australian fans a chance to see the club play in person.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase Newcastle United at two iconic venues in an iconic city as the club continues to grow globally.
“We are privileged to have so many incredible supporters around the world, and it’s a chance to be able to play in front of many in Australia who wouldn’t ordinarily get the chance to see the team.
“We look forward to engaging with our supporters in Melbourne and giving them the opportunity to feel closer to the club.”
Spurs’ Chief Football Officer, Scott Munn meanwhile is “delighted” that the club will face Newcastle in a post-season friendly in Melbourne, as he explained: “Being able to take our team overseas is always a huge honour.
“We have amazing global support and to have the opportunity to connect with those fans who may be based thousands of miles away but are fanatical about the Club is truly special.”
