2023-24 FA Cup: Quarter-Finals – Manchester United vs Liverpool

Manchester United face Liverpool at Old Trafford in the concluding Quarter-Final of 2023-24 FA Cup.

Victory would see Utd reach the semi-finals in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2003-04 & 04-05 seasons.

Liverpool meanwhile can reach the last four for just the second time under Jurgen Klopp’s management – having gone on to lift the title on their only previous occasion in 2021-22 season.

Rasmus Højlund  could return for Man Utd following his recovery from a muscle injury which had kept him sidelined in recent weeks.

Harry Maguire (unspecified), Aaron Wan Bissaka (knock) and Mason Mount (calf) could also be available but Altay Bayindir (muscle) and Jonny Evans (knock) are ruled out

Luke Shaw (muscle), Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia (both knee), Omari Forson (unspecified) and Anthony Martial (groin) remain sidelined.

Liverpool could welcome Ryan Gravenberch back from an ankle injury which kept him out of their last five matches.

Ibrahima Konate (hamstring) faces a late fitness test.

Ben Doak, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota (all knee), Joel Matip (ACL), Curtis Jones (bone), Thiago Alcantara (muscle), Stefan Bajcetic (calf) and Alisson (hamstring) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Man Utd face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday 17 March at 3:30pm GMT, live on ITV1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

Prediction

Although they routinely beat Everton in the Premier League last weekend despite sloppy open-play end product, Man Utd know that this is going to be a much tougher test defensively but their attack will benefit from having Højlund back to spearhead their front line.

Liverpool meanwhile are just a relentless beast at the minute even despite missing various regulars due to injuries, yet I am surprised that Jurgen Klopp didn’t rest some key players against Sparta Prague in the Europa League – especially given their aggregate lead.

His decision however does mean that momentum is with the Reds coming into this game and although Utd will give them a good game, I fancy Liverpool to have the edge such is their current quality across the pitch despite their poor FA Cup record at Old Trafford.

Prediction: Manchester United 1-2 Liverpool

Result: Manchester United 4-3 (AET) Liverpool
