2023-24 Sky Bet Championship: Week 35 – Friday

West Brom host Coventry City at The Hawthorns in a huge clash in the race for the Championship Play-Offs.

Victory would see West Brom stay fifth in the table, whilst Coventry can move up to seventh with a win and within one point of the last play-off spot.

West Brom have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 1-1 draw at Hull last weekend.

Daryl Dike (Achilles), Brandon Thomas-Asante, Matt Phillips (both hamstring), Martin Kelly (calf), Jayson Molumby (foot) and Josh Maja (ankle) remain absent.

Coventry have no fresh injury concerns to report following their FA Cup victory over Maidstone United, with Brad Collins set to return in goal after he missed that match due to illness.

When is Kick-Off?

West Brom host Coventry at The Hawthorns on Friday 1 March at 8pm GMT, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • West Brom have lost one of their last five meetings against Coventry (W3, D1, L1).
  • Coventry have won just one of their last seven league visits to West Brom (W1, D1, L5).
  • West Brom have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven league matches at home to Coventry, except for a 4-2 defeat in December 2007.
  • Carlos Corberan’s Baggies have kept clean sheets in four of their last six Championship games played at home (W5, L1).
  • Ellis Simms has scored in each of Coventry’s last two away matches (W1, D1).

Prediction

Having suffered a ruthless defeat at home to Preston in their last league outing, Coventry could of let their confidence drop going into their FA Cup tie against Maidstone yet they were absolutely brilliant and in firm control with a real attacking press and energy to their play throughout.

West Brom meanwhile endured a tough test against Hull where a draw was a fair result and I do expect similar here, although the Baggies have been strong at home lately which might just be their best weapon in this tight play-off race if can keep momentum going.

I however do feel like Coventry will prove a difficult test if Mark Robins’ Sky Blues play like they did against Maidstone but West Brom are defensively resilient, so a draw might well be the best outcome at this stage of the season because there are plenty of more games to come in the play-off race.

Prediction: WBA 1-1 Coventry

Result: WBA 2-1 Coventry
