Southampton entertain Hull City at St Mary’s Stadium in a rearranged Sky Bet Championship fixture.
Victory would see Southampton move up to second in the table, whilst Hull can go as high as fifth with a win if West Brom lose elsewhere.
Team News
Southampton have no fresh injury concerns to report after their win at West Brom, as Che Adams nears a return from his calf injury.
Flynn Downes (knock) faces late fitness checks but James Bree, Juan Larios and Ross Stewart (all hamstring) remain absent.
Hull will welcome midfielder, Jean Michael Seri back into contention following his return from international duty for Ivory Coast.
Tyler Morton (ankle) is a doubt but Liam Delap remains absent with a knee injury.
When is Kick-Off?
Southampton host Hull at St Mary’s Stadium at 7:45pm GMT on Tuesday 20 February, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Southampton have lost one of their last nine league meetings against Hull (W7, D1, L1).
- Hull are winless in their last 14 league visits to Southampton dating back to October 1951, when the Saints previously played their home games at The Dell (D6, L8).
- Southampton have kept clean sheets in four of their last six home games against Hull.
- Sekou Mara has scored five goals in Southampton’s four home matches across all competitions in 2024, with Mara’s five goals all scored in the second half.
- No Hull player has been involved in more league goals this season than Jaden Philogene, who has contributed eight goals and five assists in 17 appearances.
Prediction
After a difficult midweek loss at Bristol City last week which ended their unbeaten run, Southampton returned to winning ways with a clinical well-executed performance at West Brom who never really challenged the Saints too much aside from the second half.
Hull meanwhile did well to snatch a ruthless win against Huddersfield in a game where they were clinical early on, before getting dug in defensively before having enough quality to respond to a last-gasp equaliser but they will need to be perfect if want a victory here.
I however just can’t see Southampton losing this now that they seem to have found their spark again after a brief rut, but Hull certainly should give them a good game if can play like they did at the weekend against the Terriers.
Prediction: Southmpton 2-1 Hull
Result: Southampton 1-2 Hull
