2023-24 Premier League: Week 23 – Everton vs Tottenham

Everton continue their fight for Premier League survival against title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park.

Victory would lift Sean Dyche’s Toffees out of the relegation zone for a few hours, whilst Tottenham will stay fourth with a win unless Aston Villa beat Sheffield United in the late kick off and better their goal difference.

Idriss Gueye is set to return for Everton following his return from international duty for Senegal.

Seamus Coleman (hamstring), Amadou Onana (knee) and Arnaut Danjuma (ankle) are doubts but Abdoulaye Doucoure (hamstring), Andre Gomes (calf) and Dele Alli (hip) remain absent.

Tottenham could welcome midfielder, Pape Matar Sarr back into contention following his return from international duty.

Giovani Lo Celso (hamstring), Manor Solomon (knee), Ryan Sessegnon (knock), Yves Bissouma and Son Heung-min (both international duty) remain ruled out.

When is Kick-Off?

Everton host Tottenham at Goodison Park in a 12:30pm GMT kick-off on Saturday 3 February, live on TNT Sport 1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Everton are winless in their last six meeetings against Tottenham (D3, L3).
  • Tottenham are unbeaten in their last 10 league visits to Everton (W3, D7).
  • Everton have kept just one clean sheet in their last 10 home matches against Tottenham in all competitions.
  • Dyche’s Toffees have kept clean sheets in three of their last four league games at home (W2, D1, L1).
  • Tottenham have won one of their last five league matches away from home (W1, D2, L2).

Prediction

Although their goalless draw at Fulham in midweek will feel frustrating for Everton, they at least kept a clean sheet but they really need to convert their chances here if want to get a win to put the pressure upon their rivals.

Tottenham meanwhile were lucky that Brentford switched off at the start of the second half in their clash because they were pretty lacklustre in the first half, yet half-time tactical tweaks coupled with three clinical counter-attacks and resilient defending got them a vital win.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs though need to now play like they did in the second half but across the entire match now, especially if they want to keep pace in the title race but they’ve won one of their last five away games but they surely have to be favourites here.

Even if Everton manage to make themselves difficult to break down, I really can’t see Tottenham losing this game if they can continue to build upon that midweek win.

Prediction: Everton 0-2 Tottenham

Result: Everton 2-2 Tottenham
