Fulham host Newcastle at Craven Cottage in the Fourth Round of 2023-24 FA Cup.
Victory would see Fulham qualify for the Fifth Round for a second consecutive season, whilst Newcastle seek a spot in the Last 16 for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
Team News
Fulham have no fresh injury concerns to report following their Carabao Cup exit to Liverpool on aggregate in midweek.
Adama Traore (hamstring), Fode Ballo-Toure, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi (all international) remain absent.
Newcastle could welcome defender, Tino Livramento back into contention after he missed their Premier League defeat against Manchester City, due to illness a fortnight ago.
Jacob Murphy (shoulder) has resumed training and could be in contention for a matchday squad return if declared available for selection.
Elliott Anderson (back), Matt Targett (hamstring), Nick Pope (shoulder), Sandro Tonali (suspension), Joelinton (quad), Joe Willock (Achilles), Harvey Barnes (foot) and Callum Wilson (calf) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Fulham host Newcastle at Craven Cottage in a 7pm GMT kick-off on Saturday 27 January, live on ITV4 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Fulham have lost all four previous FA Cup ties against Newcastle (L4).
- Newcaste won 5-4 in their only previous FA Cup visit to Fulham, which coincidentally came at this very stage in January 1956.
- Newcastle have kept clean sheets in three of their four previous FA Cup ties against Fulham.
- Fulham have lost four of their last seven FA Cup ties against top-flight opposition (W3, L4).
- Newcastle have won just one of their last nine FA Cup ties away to Premier League opposition (W1, D1, L7).
Prediction
After suffering a tough Carabao Cup exit against Liverpool on aggregate in midweek, Fulham now must put that performance to the back of their mind and reset but they really need to polish their end product after another wasteful performance which proved costly.
Newcastle meanwhile did incredibly well on the counter-attack and defensively against Man City but they were ultimately outclassed in the second half, yet they can take heart from that performance and Murphy’s return in a game where they can afford to play with more attack.
Now if both teams play like they’ve done in their most recent games then I can see a tough contest, although Fulham really need to get the job done here given their poor away form at St James’ Park if this goes to a replay which might suit Newcastle despite their injury crisis.
Prediction: Fulham 1-1 Newcastle
Result: Fulham 0-2 Newcastle
