Roundup of the Fourth Round of 2023-24 Women’s FA Cup which saw top-flight opposition enter the competition.
This round saw Women’s Super League (WSL) teams enter this season’s competition with last season’s finalists, Chelsea and Manchester United amongst those looking to avoid cupsets.
Newcastle United meanwhile led various Non League teams dreaming of an extended cup run beyond this stage, whilst Plymouth met Nottingham Forest in the only tie which guaranteed at least one team from outside the top two divisions in the Last 16.
WSL vs Non League
Nikita Parris’ brace plus goals from Ella Toone, Rachel Williams and Melvine Mallard saw last season’s runner-up, Manchester United end Newcastle United’s unbeaten start to the season with a 5-0 home win.
Tatiana Ferreira Pinto’s brace fired Brighton past fifth-tier Luton Town to a 6-0 away win at Sharpenhoe Road, with Vatriki Sarri, Vicky Losada, Elisabeth Terland and Pauline Bremer also on the scoresheet.
Lena Petemann fired Leicester past third-tier Derby County to a 4-0 away victory, in which Janice Cayman and Deanne Rose wrapped up victory with second half goals alongside Charlotte Steggles’ own-goal.
WSL vs Championship
Rosella Ayane struck a 96th minute winner as Tottenham came from two goals down to beat Sheffield United 3-2, as Bethany England’s brace cancelled out goals from Sophie Haywood and Jessica Sigsworth.
First half goals from Alessia Russo and Lia Walti fired Arsenal to a comfortable 5-1 win at home to Watford, as second half goals from Stina Blackstenius, Amanda Ilestedt and Frida Maanum wrapped up the Gunners’ easy progression to the Fifth Round.
Jill Roord’s brace plus goals from Laura Coombs and Mary Fowler saw Manchester City cruise past Durham in a 4-0 triumph at Maiden Castle.
WSL vs WSL
Extra-time goals from Erin Cuthbert and Aggie Beever-Jones saw reigning champions – Chelsea avoid a shock exit in an eventual 3-1 win at home to West Ham, after Mia Fishel cancelled out Viviane Asseyi’s opening goal.
Katja Snoeijs’ brace plus Karoline Olesen’s goal saw Everton cruise to a 3-0 win at last season’s semi-finalists, Aston Villa.
Gemma Bonner netted a 85th minute winner as Liverpool defeated Bristol City in a tightly-fought contest at Ashton Gate.
Championship vs Championship
Katie Wilkinson’s brace saw Southampton cruise to a 2-0 win away at Sunderland in their all-Women’s Championship tie.
Late goals from Elise Hughes and Molly Sharpe saw Crystal Palace come from behind to beat Blackburn 3-1 at VBS Community Stadium, after Hayley Nolan cancelled out Megan Hornby’s opening goal.
Championship vs Non League
Melissa Johnson’s brace plus goals from Freya Godfrey and Elisha N’Dow saw Charlton come from behind to beat Ipswich 4-1, after Sophie Peskett’s ninth-minute goal had put the Tractor Girls ahead in front of their home fans.
Extra-time strikes from Claudia Walker and Jade Moore saw Birmingham City avoid a cupset at Burnley in a 3-1 win, after Libby Smith’s 21st minute goal was cancelled out by Millie Ravening’s injury-time penalty.
Destiney Toussaint’s 88th minute winner saw Women’s National League North’s Wolves stun second-tier Reading 2-1 at the Recreation Ground, after Bethan Merrick cancelled out Madison Perry’s first-half goal.
Ruesha Littlejohn fired London City Lionesses to a dominant 4-0 home win over Moneyfields, with Grace Neville, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah and Danielle Carter also on the scoresheet.
Non League vs Non League
Louanne Worsey’s brace fired Nottingham Forest to a 6-1 victory at Plymouth Argyle in the only all Non-League tie of this round, with Holly Manders, Sophie Domingo, Mai Moncaster and Charlotte Greengrass also netting despite Jade Berrow’s consolatory goal for Argyle.
