Bayern Munich have signed defender, Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur on loan with option to make the move permanent.

Dier’s move comes after Spurs managed to beat Bayern to the signing of Radu Dragusin from Genoa, which allowed Tottenham chairman – Daniel Levy to provide a green light for Dier to leave for Bayern initially on loan with option to make the move permanent in summer.

Should Dier indeed remain with Bayern beyond his loan deal, he has agreed a 12-month contract extension until June 2025.

This move also sees Dier reunite with ex Tottenham teammate, Harry Kane who made a successful move to Bayern in August 2023, and has gone on to score 25 goals in 22 appearances for the Bundesliga giants.

The decision to let Dier leave after nine-and-a-half years in North London comes after the defender made just four appearances in the first half of this season, having fallen out of favour under Ange Postecoglou who took charge last summer.

Speaking about his decision to move to Bayern, Dier commented: “This move is a dream come true for me, because as a child you want to play for a club like Bayern one day. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has an incredible history.

“I want to help the team with my versatility in defence. I’m really looking forward to my new teammates and the fans at the Allianz Arena, which in my eyes is one of the best stadiums in the world.”

Bayern’s Sporting Director, Christoph Freud added: “We’re pleased we’ve been able to sign Eric Dier. He’s long been in our thinking for this transfer window. Eric will be a valuable part of our defence.

“His sporting abilities and international experience will help the team both on the pitch and in the changing room.”

Dier scored 13 goals in 365 appearances across his time at Spurs and was part of the team which twice finished runner-up in EFL Cup in 2014-15 & 20-21 sesons, plus lost the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League Final to Liverpool.

The 29 year-old defender who can also play as a midfielder has also netted three goals in 49 international appearances for England, which were all achieved during his time as a Tottenham player.
