2023-24 Premier League: Week 19 – Burnley vs Liverpool

Burnley host Liverpool at Turf Moor in a pivotal clash at opposite ends of the Premier League table.

Victory could lift Burnley out of the relegation zone if Nottingham Forest and Luton both lose elsewhere, whilst Liverpool can go top with at least a draw.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (knock), Jack Cork (calf) and Aaron Ramsey (knee) are doubts for Burnley and won’t be rushed back, unless they are declared available for selection by club doctors.

Luca Koleosho (knee) remains absent.

Liverpool will be without Konstantinos Tsimikas after he suffered a shoulder injury during their draw against Arsenal.

Luis Diaz (knee) is a doubt but Ben Doak, Alexis Mac Allister (both knee), Diogo Jota (muscle), Joel Matip (ACL), Andrew Robertson (shoulder), Stefan Bajcetic (calf) and Thiago Alcantara (hip) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Burnley host Liverpool at Turf Moor on Boxing Day in a 5:30pm GMT kick-off, live on Amazon Prime in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Burnley have claimed four points from their last five meetings against Liverpool (W1, D1, L3).
  • Liverpool have won each of their last five visits to Burnley (W5).
  • Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have scored seven goals in their last three visits to Burnley without conceding.
  • Zeki Amdouni has registered more shots on target this season than any other Burnley player, having produced 14 shots on target in 17 league appearances.
  • Liverpool have scored in each of their last 15 league matches (W7, D6, L2).

Prediction

After their surprise win at Fulham where they were defensively excellent – especially James Trafford in goal – and clinical in their attacking moves, Burnley now need to use that performance as a launchpad because they will have to defend resiliently but take their chances well here.

Liverpool meanwhile were wasteful against Arsenal after recovering from a slow start after punishing a defensive error, but they looked back to their usual energetically dangerous creative style in their last two games after a sloppy draw against Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds though will need greater composure in their end product if want to beat an in-form Trafford early, otherwise this could well be a game of patience but I can’t see Liverpool losing this given their quality and specific form away at Turf Moor.

Prediction: Burnley 0-2 Liverpool
